Historical Sites

Every town has it's treasures and Patchogue is no exception. Along with a rich history, Patchogue has a few historical sites you might want to visit.

Historical Sites - Swan River Shoolhouse, Smith Family Monument

Swan River Schoolhouse

Swan River Schoolhouse - Established in 1858, the Swan River Schoolhouse is a quaint snapshot into the past. Equiped with a pot-bellied stove, this schoolhouse has been restored to show a common classroom of that era. You'll find it charming!

To get there: From the Four Corners, take Montauk Highway east about 2 miles until you reach a fork in the road. Bear to the right onto South Country Road and cross over the rail road tracks. Make a right onto Roe Avenue. The schoolhouse is about ½ of a block on your left hand side. Back to the top.

The Smith Family Monument

The Smith Family Monument - Located in Lakeview cemetary behind where the Lace Mill once stood, this monument covers the generations of the Smith family from 1641-1909 and features many prominent founding families of Patchogue and our country. Depicted on the Monument are the figures of Liberty, Charity and Hope. Not only is this monument a point of interest in Patchogue but a magnet for people interested in their own genealogy. You might want to drive over and search for your family name.

To get there: From the Four Corners go West on Montauk Highway (Rt. 27A) about 2 miles. Make a right on Waverly Avenue and travel north about ½ block. On your right will be a dirt area for parking and the main gate is on Montauk Highway. The monument is located towards the north side. Back to the top.
