Historical Sites

Aquebogue's history is truely rich. Going back to the earliest days on Long Island and continuing to the present, Aquebogue has a number of interesting and historical places to visit.
Historical Sites - The Witches Hat, Memorial Plaque

Witches Hat - Among the numerous farmstands that line Route 25 is a particularly quirky structure. Built in the late 1920's, it still stands today as a familiar landmark to Aquebogue's residents. It is referred to as the "Witches Hat" due to the shape of this wooden-shingled building. The farmstand is in the need of repair, but serves as a comforting landmark to many passersby.

To get there: From the center of town, head west on Route 25 (Main Road). Look for the Witches Hat on the south side of the road (during the summer, you may have to look a little harder since the structure blends into the wooded area surrounding it.) . Back to the top.

Memorial Plaque - A plaque was placed onto a boulder by the Daughters of the American Revolution. The plaque commemorates a battle which took place between British soldiers and colonial militiamen and farmers at Lucas Landing which is located on the Long Island Sound in Northville.

To get there: From the center of town, head east on Route 25 two blocks. Make a left turn onto Church Lane and head north about 2 1/2 miles to Sound Avenue. The boulder is located at the intersection of Sound Avenue and Church Lane. . Back to the top.
